Apprenticeships
Research by the Health Foundation suggests many employers are hesitant about hiring young people, citing a lack of experience and skills as key obstacles. In addition to these obstacles, care-experienced applicants are also likely to be negatively affected by stigma.
Offering care-experienced youth apprenticeships in creative careers can significantly improve their professional journeys. By providing tailored support, mentorship, and hands-on experience, we can help them develop essential skills and confidence needed to succeed in various creative fields opening doors to opportunities that might otherwise be inaccessible.
Investing in their professional development not only benefits the individuals but also enriches the creative industries with diverse perspectives and talents.
By championing their potential, we pave the way for a more inclusive and vibrant creative landscape.

Training Opportunities
Only 19% of children in care passed Maths GCSE in 2022/23, compared with 65% of all pupils
Barriers are not primarily motivational, but rather linked to capability, opportunity and support, factors outside of young people’s control requiring systemic solutions.
Evidence has shown that care-experienced young people typically lack knowledge about the available options / courses and their application process, and often have low self-confidence in relation to Education and Training
One of the significant challenges facing care leavers is their access to education and training, which is crucial for achieving better outcomes.
Although we do not provide training directly, we recognize its importance and collaborate with external training providers to facilitate upskilling opportunities.
We refer to both online and in-person courses, ensuring they have the resources they need, including funding for transportation and course fees.
Our referral program is designed to enhance the success of participants by tying their apprenticeships to the completion of specific training modules. Ensuring that individuals not only engage deeply with their learning but also are motivated to complete their tailored training pathways which align with their career goals, ultimately leading to a higher completion rate.
